Best Places For Surfing in the Philippines

Philippines is a good surfing destinations for all surfing enthusiasts. The east and the west coast of the country is best for surfers who want to spend some time surfing. The break point and waves are just alright for surfers. Philippines is a country in the Southeast Asia where there are 7,107 islands and is literally floating in water. There are numerous typhoons visit the place all year round and the eastern coast is open to the Pacific ocean and it is surrounded by seas -- the Philippine Sea and South China Sea. The place is best for lovers of beaches and for cheap but beautiful scenery. The people are also wonderful. I wrote a hub about "Cloud 9' in Siargao, Surigao del Norte -- Surfing Paradise in Southeast Asia : Siargao, Philippines -- is a famous place to surf, but aside from this place, there are provinces which you can visit and find places to surf. In this hub I will enumerate and discuss some of the provinces and good sites for surfing in the Philippines.

Why the Philippines?

  1. It is literally a haven for lovers of bodies of water -- it has 7,107 islands and is surrounded by bodies of water
  2. Accessibility 24 hours by land and reservations by plane -- international flights from Manila, Cebu City, Davao City and everywhere else (eleven -- 11 international airports)

  4. reefs and breaks are good for surfing
  5. Philippines enjoy two seasons and in the month of October until February it is best to go on surfing

Camarines Norte -- Best Places For Surfing in the Philippines

Camarines Norte is a province before Camarines Sur if you are approaching it from Manila -- and is approximately 6 to 8 hours away from Manila, Philippines by land. It is the province adjacent to Quezon province (Southern Tagalog region) and it is a province known for its beautiful shoreline as well.

  • Bagasbas beach -- 4 kms away form Daet, the capital of Camarines Norte -- known for its soft sands and good for newbies
  • D - Land -- Camarines Norte

Camarines Sur a nearby province to Camarines Norte is a good place to surf like Pasacao Beaches

The province of Catanduanes which is included in the Bicol region, Region 5 has a waves which are good for surfers. Catanduanes is always visited by typhoons. Best to surf is from October to February every year.

La Union, Philippines -- Best Places For Surfing in the Philippines

La Union is a province in the Ilocos region -- Region I. It is a location in the west coast and is best for surfing. San Juan, La Union is known for its consistent and nice winds specially from October to February every year. It is a good site for surfing specially those who loves smooth sailing wind.

From Manila, the capital city of the Philippines, you can ride a bus to San Fernando City, a thriving city.

Samar and Leyte -- Best Places For Surfing in the Philippines

Samar and Leyte are two adjacent provinces in Region 8 Philippines. There are lots of surfing sites in the area and is very accessible to Manila and Cebu City. Tacloban City is the nearest airport to Leyte province and Borongan has a flight going anywhere in the Philippines. Borongan is in Samar. Samar is still considered undiscovered, there are lots of hundreds even thousands of beautiful spots, bodies of water, falls, rivers, seas in the area.

Both provinces are good for surfers and the place to go in Samar and Leyte area are :

  • Calicoan Island "bounded by the Pacific Ocean on the East, and Leyte Gulf on the West". it is a beautiful place for surfers to go and discover the virgin island almost unexplored yet.
  • Dead Mans Curve
  • Oilers Point

Siargao, Surigao del Norte -- Best Places For Surfing in the Philippines

Siargao is the best surfing place in the Philippines, Cloud 9 is locate din Siargao, Surigao Del Norte. It has nice reefs and breakpoints, almost consistent and nice winds.

It is also the site of national and international surfing competitions.

Siargao is located in Surigao Del Norte. Check my first introductory text here for the place.and how to get there. Surigao Del Norte is a province in the CARAGA region in the Philippines. You can get there through many ways.

Zambales -- Best Places For Surfing in the Philippines

Crystal Beach Break is located in San Narciso, Zambales approximately four to five hours by bus to Manila. The bus who travel donw there are non stop and then if you have the chance you can also visit the Subic Bay area -- the naval base of America before they left in 1991.There are nice beaches in the area and the scenery is captivating.

The waves are friendl to both beginner and expert surfers.

Another one good surfing area is High Five Lahar which is located in same area, San Narciso Zambales.

Argao, Cebu -- Best Places For Surfing in the Philippines

Cebu is the second city next to Manila which is highly industrialized and very accessible. it is located in Region VII in the Philippines and flights are on always non stop for both lands and sea plus air. Cebaunos are friendly people as well. Argao is very near Cebu and while in Cebu you can also see the beautiful place which offers a lot holiday makers places to visit. You can see the Magellan cross -- remnants of the Spanish colonization by Ferdinand Magellan.

Argao is nice for surfing and skimming.
